He was 2009's breakout awkward funny guy, going from relative obscurity to show-stealing fame with his role in The Hangover, in which he played a shaggy-faced dimwit who accessorized with a stolen baby and a man-purse. Fans discovered a treasure-trove of viral Galifianakis skits online — several pairing the actor with two snarky ferns — and by year's end, he was featured prominently in the ads for Up in the Air, despite the fact that his cameo lasted only a few seconds.
